Sheri Reed

About

After relocating to the Alberni Valley five years ago, Sheri Reed began exploring visual storytelling through pottery. Becoming a member of the Sunshine Club’s pottery group provided both technical guidance and community, nurturing a deep and growing passion for the medium.

After years of creating collaborative quilts and painting in acrylics and oils, she is now working primarily in mid-range stoneware and porcelain, Sheri incorporates sgraffito and hand-painted underglaze decoration into her pieces. Glaze-layering, accompanied by frequent and fervent prayers to the Kiln Gods, is an ongoing area of growth.

Before dedicating herself to ceramics, Sheri taught middle school math, science, and art in Calgary. Following her retirement, she returned to her childhood home on Vancouver Island, where the landscapes and wildlife of the Alberni Valley now serve as constant sources of inspiration. Animals frequently find their way into her work, appearing playfully and unexpectedly—sometimes one or two, and sometimes many more.
